Community pulmonary rehabilitation is now set up for patients with COPD who live in the North or East of the city.
It takes place at Byker pool and the sessions are run on a Monday and Wednesday 1.30-3.00pm for a total of 8 weeks.
There are 2 components to the sessions.
1. Education comprising of inhaler technique,relaxation, smoking cessation,lung pathology,CBT,sputum clearance,exacerbation management and welfare rights.
2. Exercise.
Following this a maintenance session will be offered, this is run once a week on a Monday 3.00-4.00pm and again is run for 8 weeks. Patients are then encouraged to participate in life long exercise.

The next session is on July 21st 2009 .
The topic covered will be spirometry interpretation
The forum starts with lunch at 12 midday. We meet at the molineux PCT building room 1. This is very informal and a great chance to get together and have a round table discussion relating to the topic or any other matters relating to respiratory medicine.
The forum is for all healthcare professionals who have an interest in respiratory care.
